Showing Up for Racial Justice in Durham, Chatham, and Orange Counties.
We are members of Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) in Durham, Chatham, and Orange Counties, organizing for racial and economic justice in the Eno River area. We know that strategic racism has been used to divide communities — to convince white people that we have more in common with billionaires and corporate elites than with our neighbors. We're here to build something different: a just, vibrant future where people of all races work together. That work starts locally, and there's a place for you in it.
The Eno River area — Durham, Chatham, and Orange Counties — is a place with deep roots in organizing and a lot of work still to do around housing, education, immigrant rights, and economic justice. SURJ members here believe that everyone has something to gain when communities come together across racial lines. We show up not to take charge, but to listen, learn, and do our part — because the future we want to build is one we have to build together.
Connect with national SURJ campaigns and bring them to our communities
Build relationships with local organizations led by people of color
Have honest conversations in our own communities about racism and justice
Make concrete improvements in people’s lives through local and national campaigns
Learn together through political education and discussion
It's about developing allies. We are honored to work alongside Siembra NC — a Latinx-led organization building power for North Carolina's 1.2 million Latinx residents. Siembra organizes for immigrant rights, supports workers facing wage theft, runs rapid-response networks, and works toward a North Carolina where everyone can thrive.
Supporting Siembra NC's work is one of the most concrete ways we show up for racial and economic justice in our own community.
